What's in a name?

11/7/2017

My mother wanted to name me “Caroline,” but a famous person gave birth to a daughter a few days before I was born, and gave that name to her. My mother did not want people to think I was named after a celebrity so I was called Ellen, my grandmother’s name. I sometimes wonder if my life would have been different as a Caroline.

Tell the story of how you got your name.

My mother told me that I was supposed to be born in April. Even though I came out in March she still named me April.

My mother just wanted to name me Dejair. She made it up because she wanted something unique. Not many people are named Dejair, so I am very happy about it.
