Your Task

Picture
Create a presentation of no more than 12 slides designed to be given at a community board, PTA or school leadership meeting stating your position on the issue of Web-based classes, and supporting it with convincing reasons based on your research. You will be giving the presentation in class during allotted time that should net exceed 15 minutes. Your presentation slides will be posted here.

Keep in mind...
Creating a presentation that will be used to persuade an audience to agree with your point of view is the same as the process you undertake to prepare for writing a persuasive essay.  Think of the presentation  as an outline for a persuasive essay.  You will:

  • Create a thesis statement. The thesis statement states your position and should be followed by at least three reasons that will support your position. The thesis cannot be a fact as facts cannot be debated. It should be a statement of position. That position must be clear and direct. This statement directs your audience to follow along with your logic towards the specific stated conclusion that you want them to support.
  • Each reason should be explained or supported by facts you have found in your research. Use specific evidence, examples, and statistics and not broad generalizations or personal opinions to persuade the audience that your stated position is a valid one. Conclude by clearly redefining the topic and restating the most compelling evidence cited.
  • Remember, this is the last chance to remind the audience and convince them to accept your position.  Do not introduce new material in the conclusion.

Note
It is important that you understand other sides of the position, so that the strongest information to counter the others can be presented. Email your completed presentation to msbrodysclass@gmail.com.
